  • ABLE is seeking an entry-level landscape designer to support our community engagement, design, and research work. Ideal candidates should have strong critical design thinking skills, an organizational mind-set, clear written, spoken and graphic communication skills, and a willingness to work collaboratively. Our practice is rooted in social equity, environmental justice, and thinking critically about how we work; we hope you are excited about advancing these values through the design of high-quality everyday landscapes.

We expect landscape designers to have a working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Google Workspace.  A basic knowledge of AutoCAD and Rhino or Sketch-Up is preferred. Experience in community organizing or engagement are strongly preferred.

  • As a Landscape Designer at ABLE, you will assist in the design and development of a variety of landscape projects including parks, playgrounds, residences, and site activation projects; at various scales and complexity. You will collaborate with the entire ABLE team, our consultants and collaborators, and community partners to help bring projects from concept through construction. Our design process is iterative and led by community vision; a successful candidate will be comfortable with hand drawing, developing design alternatives, and refining designs in response to community priorities and feedback. We strive to cultivate a supportive work environment where early career designers can take ownership of projects, develop new skills, and cultivate research interests.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Create presentation graphics, including hand sketches, digital renderings, and diagrams, to communicate design ideas

    • Attend meetings to present and discuss project development

    • Assist in planning and facilitating community engagement events, creating engagement materials, and synthesizing engagement feedback toward building relationships with community

    • Assist in development of conceptual designs including site analysis and project research

    • Collaborate on technical documentation and drawings under the direction of a landscape architect

    • Explore research topics for both projects and independent interests as they relate to our practice

    • Contribute to marketing efforts

  • Based in Seattle, ABLE is a landscape architecture practice with projects rooted in community building, social equity, and environmental justice. Our mission is to elevate everyday landscapes toward a more culturally significant, regionally specific, and healthier environment where communities can thrive. We believe meaningful design starts with a strong vision co-created with community and is achieved through attention to detail and craft. We embrace joy and equity in practice with a strong sense of mutual care and support for each other.
