OUR VALUES

We center environmental justice.

  • We engage with the complexity of sites, communities, and cultures to imagine better futures.

  • We advance equity in the built environment through attention to detail, local histories, regional craft, and native ecologies.

  • We commit to challenging power imbalances in the landscape and promoting the vision and self-determination of marginalized peoples.

  • We are on Native land. We honor Native history and seek consent and collaboration with Indigenous communities whenever possible.

We build relationships and trust before we build landscapes.

  • We listen before we design; we learn from the expertise of our partners and communities.

  • We believe in the power of process to strengthen existing relationships, build new ones, and bring people together around a shared set of priorities.

  • With respect for the knowledge and responsibility entrusted to us, we hold ourselves accountable and deliver on our promises.

  • We honor the many forms of labor and craft it takes to make landscapes; we design with maintenance in mind and support fair conditions for landscape workers.

We prioritize joy in the creative process.

  • Joy is at the heart of all our work: the drawings and daily interactions, the celebration of community, the connection to the Land.

  • We draw inspiration from the joy, curiosity, and imagination of young people to create a more youth-friendly, fun, and accessible public realm.

We think expansively beyond our role as landscape architects.

  • We are committed to crafting resilient landscapes for all living beings and humans of all abilities.

  • We integrate research and exploration into our design process and foster knowledge sharing within the landscape community.

  • We think beyond the site to consider the ecological, labor, and climate impacts of our material sourcing.

We nurture an equitable practice.

  • We foster a respectful working environment rooted in a sense of care and mutual support for each other.

  • We maintain a set of equitable metrics to hold ourselves accountable within our practice as well as with clients, communities, and fellow landscape architects.

  • We donate our time and money to local organizations and invest back into the communities in which we work. 4% of our annual profits go to social justice causes.
