2024 Year in Review
2024 was a busy year at ABLE! After a little wintertime rest, we’re taking a look back to celebrate our achievements, appreciate our many collaborators and partners, and reflect on the exciting work that’s carrying us into 2025.
In 2024, we…
Kicked off seven new projects!
…and applied for many more. 2024 was a year of lots of proposals.
Began an exciting collaboration with Colloqate Design and many incredible community leaders to craft a development plan for Rebecca Howard Park, a space to honor Black history, leadership, and healing in Olympia, Washington.
Held our first community engagement events for three parks in Shoreline, Washington, with more rounds of engagement coming up soon.
Visited Green River, Utah and hosted a community design workshop for the Commons, a public landscape surrounding much-needed affordable housing.
Won a WASLA Analysis & Planning Award for our work on the Oregon Rural Community Schoolyards Program!
Brought the Madras Community Schoolyard to bid, with construction expected to begin in early 2025.
Expanded our team by bringing on Abbey as a landscape designer!
Started educating ourselves on the process of converting to a worker-owned cooperative.
Launched a research project on designing inclusive play through the lens of disability justice.
In 2025, we’re looking forward to…
Abbey:
rediscovering my home landscape
cooking with friends and family
sunrise hikes and sunset swims
Ari:
supporting local mutual aid projects
harvesting my first garlic crop
more tidepooling!
Ashley:
more time on + in the water
slow productivity
finally exploring the world of baking
Becky:
trips and travel
hugs from friends
beautiful blooms
and taking some time to pause, look around, and take it all in
Jean:
studying agrarian calendars
cultivating a medicinal garden
learning the art of being a mamma
