The City of Pittsburgh approached ABLE with the task of designing a custom swing bench for the city’s parks and riverfronts. Inspired by the warmth and welcoming nature of Pittsburgh’s industrial giants – the mesmerizing warm glow of the steel mill at night, the large steel bridges that shape the city – ABLE crafted a custom swing bench that is quintessentially Pittsburgh. We played with the scale of the standard steel elements, the I-beam, the angle, the channel for a modern interpretation of classic industrial vernacular. The warm wood slats are proportioned and shaped to make for an inviting and cozy spot for elders and children alike to sit comfortably and enjoy their urban parks.
